What Is Tooth Reimplantation?
A tooth that has been completely knocked out — known as an avulsed tooth — requires immediate attention. In many cases, tooth reimplantation can restore the tooth to its socket and preserve it long-term, especially if treatment is received promptly. Our team at Silberman Endodontics may also recommend intentional tooth reimplantation to help save a tooth that hasn't responded to more conservative treatments. In both situations, our goal is the same: to keep the natural tooth in place whenever possible. With timely treatment and the right approach, even an adult tooth can be successfully reimplanted. Drs. Jaime Silberman and Lawrence Posner plan each reimplantation with a focus on precision and patient comfort, treating complex cases that need specialized care. Whether you're struggling with complications after a root canal treatment or require emergency dental care to try to save your smile, reach out to our endodontic providers in Boynton Beach, FL to get the treatment you need.
How Does Tooth Reimplantation Work?
In cases of accidental tooth loss, we will first assess the condition of the avulsed tooth and the socket. If the tooth is still viable and hasn't been out of the mouth for too long, we will gently rinse it and reinsert it into the socket. The tooth will then be stabilized with a splint, which is typically worn for a couple of weeks. Root canal treatment is often required and may be performed shortly after the tooth is reimplanted or once the splint is removed.
For intentional reimplantation, we will carefully extract the affected tooth in a controlled setting, avoiding trauma to the surrounding bone and tissue. Once removed, the tooth will be inspected and treated as needed, usually by performing a root-end filling or addressing blockages. We'll then return the tooth to its socket and stabilize it in place. Before you leave, we'll schedule a follow-up appointment to ensure the tooth is healing properly.
What Are the Benefits of Tooth Reimplantation?
At Silberman Endodontics, we evaluate each patient's case carefully to determine whether reimplantation — emergency or intentional — is likely to be successful. When appropriate, it can be a conservative and effective option for preserving a natural tooth that might otherwise be lost. The benefits of tooth reimplantation include:
- Preserves the natural tooth
- Prevents or delays the need for implants
- Offers a treatment option when conventional care is not possible
- Helps maintain jawbone and bite alignment
- Can be effective even when other options have failed

Excellent, excellent doctor and staff Reassuring and easy to understand definitely a number one rated Dr,and front desk Staff
I was in a lot of pain and my dentist told me I needed an emergency procedure. Dr. Posner at Silberman Endodontics was able to diagnose and do the root canal on the same day. He was kind and thorough in his explanations. I was very happy with the outcome and grateful he could save the tooth. My only advice is to double check with the front desk that they take your insurance. I had to follow up to confirm that it went through.
Sharon and staff are always courteous and on time! Dr. Silberman is very nice and great at what he does as well. A thumbs up overall.
